The GenderPledge is a digital, signed statement to signify your organisational commitment to supporting gender initiatives and advocating for gender equality.

It is a commitment in writing, making the organisation’s intentions visible and celebrated.

By taking the GenderPledge, you are committing to progressing gender equality, gender safety and gender inclusion for all gender identities at a strategic level. This means your organisation sees gender equality as a key strategic priority.


Please note: The GenderPledge is a free initiative only available to Gender at Work Community Members.

How to take the GenderPledge

  • Sign up to become a Gender at Work Community member to gain access to the GenderPledge. The GenderPledge is exclusively available to members only and may only be taken by an Executive Member of an organisation.

  • You can take the GenderPledge by using an online form on the Members’ Area of the website.

  • Once you’ve taken the GenderPledge, you will receive an electronic version of your signed statement, as well as the GenderPledge logo which you can proudly display to highlight your commitment to progressing gender equality.

The GenderPledge Statement

The GenderPledge is underpinned by the following statement, which organisations taking the pledge agree to uphold.

“We agree to progress towards all gender identities having a safe working environment, equal opportunities and a workplace where they can belong and feel included.

We are committed to supporting gender initiatives and advocating for gender equality”.

Difference between the GenderPledge and the GenderTick

Both are available to Gender at Work Community Members.

The GenderPledge is a certificate that signifies organisational intent to make progress in the gender equality space - this is best for those at the beginning of their journey.

The GenderTick is a formal accreditation programme designed to acknowledge organisations that have successfully demonstrated their compliance and leadership in the gender equality space.

What are the GenderPledge benefits?

For gender, there are still huge inequalities, discrimination, bullying and harassment that can prevent full and equal participation at work in New Zealand. That’s why it is critical for organisations – big and small – to formally demonstrate their commitment.

By signing the GenderPledge, you’ll recieve:

  • Tools and resources to assist with progression available in the Members’ Area on the Gender at Work website

  • An electronic version of your signed GenderPledge Statement

  • Rights to use the GenderPledge logo which you can proudly display to highlight your commitment to progressing gender equality

In addition, we’ve seen first-hand that making visible progress towards gender equality each year fosters a culture of acceptance.
